Initial Years
R.K. Sreerangammal Kalvi Nilayam was established in June 1951 by Dr. R.K. Shanmukham Chettiar, the First Finance Minister of Free India, along with his three brothers R.K. Venkatachalam Chettiar, R.K. Ramakrishnan Chettiar and R.K. Kandaswamy Chettiar in the fond memory of their mother Sreerangammal. Starting as a High School in 1953 with Tamil as the medium of education, it rose to the stature of a full-fledged Higher Secondary School in 1981 and continues to serve the academic needs of the student population in and around Coimbatore. The Nursery & Primary School was established in 1989. English Medium stream for High School & Higher Secondary has introduced in 1990 and from then English Medium Sections are there from start to finish
Our Heritage
RKS Kalvi Nilayam is one of the oldest, reputed and finest school in the Coimbatore district for the past several decades which is situated in the midst of Coimbatore city. It was established in1953 by the First Finance Minister of Independent India “Dr.R.K. Shanmugam Chettiyar” an illustrious economist of International repute. In the fond memory of his mother Sreerangammal,he persuaded in the direction of imparting quality education with social justice, directing young minds to think unique, pursue their dreams with passion and make a difference in their society. Our school R.K.S Kalvi Nilayam was the result of the realization of vision of our Founder. Soaring higher and higher over the years, our school has celebrated Diamond Jubilee in 2013 and has contributed largely to the development of education in the Coimbatore region. It’s been 68 years of RKS, and it continues to serve the academic needs of the student population in and around Coimbatore. The school has excellent infrastructure for classroom learning and a well-equipped staff of qualified teachers who are deeply conscious in not just teaching students but in shaping and molding the citizens of tomorrow.

A life size bronze statue of Dr.R.K.Shanmugam chetty was unveiled on the campus of our school on 6th july 2014. To provide best education to the students our founder established this school. So far our school is working to give best education to the students. our teachers work together to enhance our students abilities. Our founder’s aim is our students should meet all the potential. Our school continuous to serve the academic needs of the students population in and around Coimbatore. Our school emblem symbolizes a bright future and vital energy.
